Tracon has been supplying the bodywork builders in the Netherlands with chassis for decades. You have a choice between trailers, semi trailers and Combitrain chassis. We can build a bare chassis extensively to your requirements: thermally galvanised chassis, coloured chassis, coloured wheels, coloured hubs, without (part of) the lighting, custom made front beam or rear beam, resistance in the neck, without rear frame, support for boxes or tanks, with lift, etcetera. Chassis

Tracon chassis are designed for prolonged and intensive use. The main beams of the chassis are therefore welded on both sides for added strength, which is unique in trailer construction. In addition, the chassis is equipped with a cross-beam at every 400 mm so that a heavy floor load is made possible. The fifth wheel coupling in the neck is as much as 10 mm thick to prevent distortion in the long term. 

All this results in a 16 ton neck with a note on the registration and technically good for a whopping 18 tons, standard! In conclusion, this chassis is the foundation for an intensive and extra long life!

Surface preparation

Tracon provides all its chassis standard with a cathodic electrodeposition coating covered with a powder coat finish. Hence, double coating for better corrosion protection.

KTL

This is the abbreviation of Kathodische Tauch Lackierung (electrostatic lacquer dip). KTL is an electrostatic painting process during which the chassis is immersed into a liquid bath. In a bath filled with lacquer the chassis is immersed under electrical power. With the help of direct current voltage, the paint particles are drawn to the chassis and a layer of varnish is created on the surface. This lacquer layer grows until a closed and insulating layer is formed onto the chassis. This way, it is possible to provide hard to reach areas with a lacquer layer. After the electrostatic application of the paint, this is dried and hardened in an oven at 180 to 200°C. Distinctive in our KTL process is that one of the immersion baths is a galvanising bath for an extra long lasting protective coating.

Powder Coating

After the KTL process, we provide the chassis as a standard with a powder coating lacquer layer for extra protection. Negatively charged powder is sprayed onto a positively charged chassis with compressed air. Through the electrostatic principle, the powder temporarily sticks to the sprayed chassis, after which it is heated in an oven. This gives the coating the opportunity to flow out, after which it is hardened.  

Thermal galvanisation

For a small additional charge, it is possible to galvanize all our chassis thermally. This is the best possible anti-corrosion treatment. Thermal galvanizing is an immersion process, whereby the liquid zinc, at a temperature of approximately 450°C, reaches all corners of the chassis, both internally and externally. The steel and the zinc together form a zinc alloy. This very strong protective layer is covered by a pure zinc layer. The zinc is thicker on the vulnerable edges, making the protection even better. Galvanised chassis are very sustainable, maintenance-free and offer maximum protection. A thermally galvanised chassis is rust resistant for at least 15 years.

Floor

Certified 28 mm flat, plated floor. Equipped with wear resistant anti-slip profile. Through the support of many crossbeams (every 400 mm), this floor is suitable for heavy loads. A certified floor load of up to 9,000 kilograms per lift truck axle is permitted.









 

Steering

Tracon and Tridec

When you choose for a steered trailer, Tracon will always install a Tridec steering system. Tridec is part of the Jost Group and is a leader in the field of steering systems in trailers. Our product range is extensive: single-steered, double-steered as well as X-steered versions are available.

Which steering system is the right one for you?

Rods

For the sake of safety and ease of maintenance almost all steered trailers in Europe are driven with a rod steering system. This is suitable for flat and (semi) trailers. When using rods, the steering motion is transferred very directly and no slack is created in the system. This makes the system low-maintenance. Through a unique construction, the entire system can easily be dismantled from underneath. This saves a lot of time in service and renders a floor hatch in the bodywork unnecessary.

Cable

Here, the steering motion is transferred from front to back by means of a cable. It is guided over pulleys. Tracon provides no cable steered trailers.

Hydraulic

Hydraulic steering systems are used for extendible trailers for which the rod connection is not possible. Hydraulic systems are also applied if a low floor height in combination with steering is required. Height is lost due to the turntable which is normally present for a rod steering system.

Which axles should be steered?

tridec

The first and the last axle steered (Tridec X-besturing)

Advantages:

Good weight distribution possible;
Less tire wear;
Less rolling resistance hence less fuel consumption;
Comes through internally,  making you swing less, especially beneficial in case of a truck-mounted forklift;
Fewer fines for exceeding axle load;
Suitable for two-axle and three-axle trailers 

Disadvantages:

Less manoeuvrable than a single steered trailer, comes through internally, just like a non-steered trailer (turning radiuses on request);
More maintenance compared to a single steered trailer (more turntables);
More expensive to purchase

Only last axle steered (most used)

Advantages:

Very manoeuvrable;
Manoeuvrability can be easily adjusted;
Less tire wear;
Less rolling resistance hence less fuel consumption;
Better weight distribution by moving the last axle backwards;  

Nadelen:

More maintenance compared to a non steered trailer

For maximum manoeuvrability a single steered trailer is the right choice

For maximum axle load distribution an X-controlled trailer is the right choice

Lifts

Optionally, it is possible to select a tuck-away lift. Basically we have chosen for the brand Dhollandia, also because of the large number of service points which is present in the Netherlands. So you can be assisted quickly when necessary. On the Combitrain with an internal platform length of 8,100 mm, it is possible to mount a lift with a 1,500 mm platform and a loading capacity of 2,000 kg. On the Combitrain with an internal platform length of 10,200 mm, it is possible to mount a lift with a 1,800 mm platform and a loading capacity of 2,000 kg. Because of the many possibilities you can assemble the lift entirely according to your requirements.
